MN Running out of (legal) beer, liquor and cigarettes

Wed Jul 13, 2011 8:23 am

Here's a link to an article in the Minneapolis Star tribune about how bars and stores in my home state are unable to purchase any alcohol or cigarettes until our lame ass government goes back to work. They've been shut down for 2 weeks now with no end in sight....

Bars are going to go out of business.....

Bummer. Especially for the small places with small storerooms who stock local craft beer.

I know... luckily, it is legal for MN homebrewers to sell our "concoctions" to the public - as long as it's brewed in a basement that passes an inspection...

Which probably needs a state-employed inspector...

Yeah, I know, but this law passed over a year ago... Somebody's gotta be able to hook a brotha up with a growler now and then...

Now find those inspected basements and start brewing!

Can a consumer head to the local brewery for a keg?

You can go to the brewery and pick up growlers, as long as they produce less than a specified number of barrels each year. There are at least two of those in Minneapolis, so hopefully they will get more business. On the bright side, Miller Coors won't be able to sell here until the state gets its act together.

Or, forgive me for saying this, but, hopefully Miller Coors can throw enough money at our state to solve our budget crisis.
