Here's another random thread as I'm sitting here half in the bag... When I have given out beer, I have had people ask me if they can give me any $ for the beer. I have told these people that I cannot take payment for my beer, but that I have a rather expensive hobby and that any donations to equipment, etc. are acceptable. How does everyone else handle this situation?

Only half in the bag? Slacker. Just let people know what you are planning to get next for your brewery (including catalog page) and you'd be amazed at what just shows up

I have never taken money for my beer.

However, I am having a floor drain installed in the garage in exchange for two kegs.

I encourage people to join me for a brew day. Or I offer to brew a batch for them as long as they pay for the ingredients and I get to keep a gallon or two.

I think giving beer away you get the investment back in spades typically. So I never take "money" for beer but as others have stated, you usually will get discounts or free stuff in return and usually more than what you spent to make the beer. I have told people if they want me to make a beer they could buy the ingredients though. I wouldn't keep much though, maybe a couple bottles so I could taste it and make it better next time.

I've never taken money for Beer either. I've had people ask me to sell them a case or two, but I tell them it wouldn't be legal. Also, if you do it once, you will be asked to do it again and there will be no way out. I share my Beer openly, and if I brew a beer I KNOW a particular person has or will enjoy I'll give them a few bottles, but that's it.

If someone wants me to brew a batch for a party or something they usually offer me ingredient money.... I accept it... otherwise it has never happened.
