I am a big Stone anti-fan. While I think their every day beers (pale, ipa, levitation, RIS, OG, AB etc) are fair at best, some of their collaboration series have been pretty good and I've enjoyed most of their recent anniversary and vertical epic beers.

I've had the misfortune of meeting Greg Koch a couple of times. For one of them I was introduced to him by one of the better known beer people in San Diego and the guy's been a douche every time I've met him. I realize he's the face of Stone and it may be an act he's putting on, but give it a rest already. I'm also not all that impressed with their brewery/restaurant. I will admit it's a gorgeous location and while I've only eaten there twice, both times had below average service, clueless waitstaff about the beer and felt the food was average for well above average prices.

I haven't sworn off the entire company and I do know a lot of great people that work there, but I don't go out of my way to support the place when I feel there are at least a dozen, if not 20 breweries in San Diego that make better beer and don't have an a-hole as the face of their company.

Not necessarily a case of eating crow as I said I'll drink some of their stuff, but I'm definitely not on the Stone bandwagon.

What really surprises me is you people crying about $5 pints. Seems just about every pint of Sculpin I purchase down here is $7 and I don't blink an eye about it. I'm glad to support the brewery and the bars that serve their beers. I'm not sure what the prices for Sculpin are at the tasting rooms, but it wouldn't surprise me if they're in the $6 - $7 range.
