New Philly Euro Pub - Fork & Barrel

Tue Oct 19, 2010 9:23 am

A new euro-style pub has opened in East Falls (near Manayunk) recently. Has gotten some good reviews on Beer Advocate so far. Doesn't look like they have a website up yet, but I found a beer list.

I'm not sure if I'm a cheap-o, but the prices look pretty prohibitive to me, especially since East Falls isn't the nicest part of town. Although, I guess it could end up being like Grey Lodge.
Me: I'm gonna drink a Boon Geuze.
SWMBO: You're a booze goon.

Yikes. This place is taking a long shot for sure. I'll swing by and show my support for a good attempt to bring more beer into Philly but I agree that this can't last long.

I get what they are trying to do going all European but you could still favor those beers while still bringing in the beer crowd pleasers.

Best of luck to them. I'll be sure to stop by sooner rather than later!

yeah...i havent been there, but from that beer list...they are not doing only euro...with some hitachino on there...

if they are not doing solely euro i find it somewhat disrespectful and honestly kind of stupid not to include the great local beers. its an easy way to get people to come in and drink a few Yards or PBC and then mix in a more expensive beer. That's typically how I drink when I go out. I obviously like to drink beers from around the world, but I will almost always have a local beer in the mix.
Just fine,

I think it's good to have bars that specialize in everything. Most bars in philly serve the local standbys, so why not have some that focus on something else. It's nice to see someone serving beers that are hard to find - especially well-stored.

That said, I may stop by to check it out, but I mostly drink like brewranger when I go out too.

I may have spoken too soon. This place is brought to you by the same group that do Tap & Table and The Bookstore. I have not been to any of these places but judging by their websites they either know what they are doing or are extremely well funded, perhaps both?!

Let's see of the neighborhood will support this unique place! Hope so.
