I usually brew in the late evening when I'd be having a beer anyway. I always drink when I cook too. Just gets me in the mood. I'd probably be more likely to screw something up if I didn't drink because I'd be too damn paranoid that something woud have to go wrong.

I am a night brewer, I usually get started around 9:00 pm, so there is usually one or two beers to be had somewhere in the process. Usually during the mash, and/ or another during the boil. Two beers in a three or four hour brewing session and I am usually ready to hit the bed around 1:00 am. What else are you going to do during the boil except clean some stuff, etc.

I have to play it by ear. Some days I'll hit a few from the beginning, other days I won't open any until I've pitched. I am also really forgetful and paranoid (nice F-ing combo, right?). So I have to check myself as I go. I don't drink when I'm sanitising anymore. I have had too many batches get infected while doing this. I also won't drink while I have to touch things that will come in contact with my cold beer. That's also a spot that I gave my beer bad mojo.
Love the beer, drink the beer, be the beer.

It's interesting to see the diversity in this poll. I think the twist would be to see if there is a correlation between performance in competition and average beer drank while brewing, etc. As for me, I have the kettle fired up right now, but since it's still early my drink of choice is coffee! Anyway, Happy 4th everyone!

Cheers!

For me it depends who I am brewing with. If it's just me & the girlfriend I'll usually just have a beer after cleanup. If the guys are over it's usually brew & BBQ day, so we'll crack open a few throughout the process.

I don't think it affects me too much, but like last weekend, I forgot to take the origional gravity reading on one batch. I just do extract based stuff & I hit the volume so I probably hit the OG, but I like having those numbers anyways.
The more I learn, the more I know, theres a lot more I don't know.
