I am thinking about brewing a beer for a music festival this summer (High Sierra Music Festival). It’s going to be in the mountains and it will be hot all day. I was thinking about a pale ale that is refreshing and that won’t have a bunch of residual sugars (to try and keep the hangovers to a minimum). The hops I have on hand are Cascade, Simcoe, Palisade, Glacier, Amarillo, and Centennial. Anyone have any suggestions for an extract recipe (w/ steeped grains)? Thanks!

Two Words - Sour Beer

As in Flanders Red or Oud Bruin or the chick friendly Berliner Weisse all are killer for summer, or winter or spring or fall.....

With that lineup of hops, and wanting to please a lot of people, I'd say go with a restrained pale ale/blonde ale. As much as us craft brew lovers like our hops, most people don't unfortunately (we'll convert them eventually!).

A quick and easy brew that goes down nice!

Nah, fuck that.... Make Bugeater's Rye Cream Ale! Everybody loves this beer. Mine second attempt was even better than my first. So much so that I had to enter it in NHC. The rye, extra hops, and elevated OG pushes it out of the Cream Ale category - so I had to enter it in Cat 23. I gave the nod to Boog in the name - "Boog it 2 Me".


Mylo

2 lbs Light LME begining boil
6 lbs Light DME heat this with about a quart of distilled water in seperate pot and add at 15 mins left in boil.

1 lb Belgian Pale Malt
1/4 lb all the following
Honey Malt
British Crisp
Carapils
40 L

1 oz Centenial @ 60
.33 oz Simcoe/Cascade/Amarillo @ 20 & Flame out
Dry hop .5 oz Simcoe/Cascade/Amarillo 1 week into fermentation
Dry Hop Keg .25 oz Simcoe/Cascade/Amarillo
