Jamil's Recipes in an Excel spreadsheet

Mon May 11, 2009 5:41 am

Hi everyone. Sometimes I find it difficult to decide which beer I want to brew next. I generally check out Jamil and John Palmer's book Brewing Classic Styles first. I have read Brewing Classic Styles from cover to cover several times. I really think it is a big help to newer brewers and advanced brewers alike. But the book isn't organized by ingredients. In other words, if I wanted to brew another beer with a re-pitch of Irish Ale yeast, I'd have to go through the entire book, recipe by recipe until I found one. I made an excel spreadsheet that gives every every recipe in the book, along with all the specs, ie. IBU, SRM, ABV, and the suggested ingredients like grains, extracts and yeast, and made the spreadsheet. It's easy to search for your ingredients then just scroll to the left to find the recipe and page number from the book. Here is the link if anyone would like to download it: http://www.winning-homebrew.com/recipe-database.html
I hope everyone finds it as useful as I do.

FYI, he did get permission from Brewers Publications. The spread sheet includes the ingredients, but not the amounts. You still need the book.
I hope my post helped in some way. If not, please feel free to contact me.

That's cool. I have the book, and this will make it easy to do searches for what I can brew with what I have on hand. :jnj

Thanks Jamil,
Yes, the publisher seemed excited about the whole thing, and felt it would be good for everyone involved. Hope it helps.

Glad you got permission. Otherwise, I would think that Jamil would hunt you down and punch you in the junk.

Nice looking spreadsheet. Very Cool.
